I’M
SAILESH
GHELANI
Who am I? Sometimes I ask myself the same question. It’s funny how some people define themselves by what they do. “I’m a yoga instructor,” or “I’m a hair stylist,” or “I’m into finance.” I’ve never really been stuck to one particular type of work. My experiences have been varied; my skills numerous. I can conceptualise an advertisement, I can interview a Hollywood star, I can edit a magazine, I have hosted a food and travel review show on YouTube, I can organise a photo shoot, I can write and direct a stage play, I could instruct someone how to workout at the gym, I can review movies, food, travel destinations and more.
It is easy to destroy, especially in today’s world where content is consumed at such an alarming velocity that no one truly remembers anything and nothing is timeless (except for maybe some very funny YouTube videos). I’ve always felt that my job is to add value to whatever I am involved in, to push the limits a little, to push the photographer, or the artist, the client or the designer, so that they can be proud of themselves and I can have been part of something memorable.
Standing up for what I believe in has always been something that I’ve done, and it applies to my interactions, both personal and professional. I have to live with myself and I want that to be a peaceful and fulfilling experience.
“A blank piece of paper is God's way of telling us how hard it is to be God.”
- Sidney Sheldon
Creating websites and digital content by interacting with the clients and understanding what they want is what I bring to the table. Guiding a designer, developer, art director, copywriter or photographer to a creation that I feel meets what both client and I envision is my skill.
As part of a meaningful work/life balance I make sure that my body and health are taken care of at the gym, the pool, the yoga mat and the dinner table. I help street dogs and cats with food, medical aid, finding homes and friendly belly rubs. Art, movies, books, music, theatre, desserts, and shopping fill my soul with the sustenance I need to deal with the many challenges of life we must all endure.
After over two decades in digital content, advertising, journalism, social media and project management, I still have things to learn about and I’m never ashamed to ask questions and better myself. I feel I can always bring something new, a perspective, a uniqueness that is lacking in today’s ‘template’ driven world. All that is needed for good work to come to fruition is trust, team work and the tolerance for mistakes that lead to marvels.
